Doug came with me on my second walk, from Faversham to Whitstable on the North Kent coast. It’s an area we both know pretty well, but we’d never joined up the two towns, so here was an opportunity to enjoy sun, sea air, coastal pubs and get some photographic practice using our new kit.
The winter sun was very bright and low, deep shadows and strong highlights creating dramatic images, but difficult exposure conditions. Around midday, and when were on a pretty boring part of the walk, the cloud came over and the plunged us into monochromatic gloom, but the sun came again out for the latter part of the walk and it all finished very pleasantly in the pub.
I’ve now realised that the galleries from these walks form a photographic project in their own right and I’ll approach future walks from the point of view of documenting the journey. I’ll do a few of these and then review what I’ve discovered.
The Faversham to Whitstable walk is from Saturday Walkers’ Club web site and follows this route.
