house – day 34 – the real work starts
Another frigid day, but at least the sun is shining. As we drove up to the house, I could see Chris’s van and another parked in front of the house and as we stopped, I saw we had scaffolding up the side of the house. Hoorah, work truly has started. My mood was lightening by the minute.
So we got started – stripping walls to find paper on top of paint on on top of more paper covering lime wash, it’s going to be a slow process. I finished off the socket filling I started on Monday and lifted the rest of the quadrant in the living room. In the meantime the chimney started to come down, it really did feel like we were getting somewhere at last.
I’ve still got more wood to salvage, I’d like to use the original architrave wherever we can and I rescued some today from the fourth bedroom and the hallway. I had to curtail the work as Fiona started to get cold hands and feet and needed to get home. I hadn’t quite salvaged everything I intended today but there’s not a lot more now.
We spent the evening in the pub discussing / arguing about the layout of the kitchen.
…. and I discovered you can see the sea from our house, you just need to be on the roof.
